DTF Pressing 101

Example of our high-quality DTF print with vibrant color and fine detail.

What Are DTF Prints?

DTF stands for Direct to Film. DTF prints are full‑color heat‑applied transfers that can be pressed onto a wide variety of fabrics and materials. The design is professionally printed onto a special film using high‑quality inks and adhesive powder, then cured. You receive the finished transfer, ready to press at home or in your shop.

DTF prints are loved for their:

  • Vibrant, long‑lasting color
  • Soft, flexible feel when applied correctly
  • Ability to work on cotton, polyester, blends, and more
  • No weeding required

They’re perfect for t‑shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, totes, and other fabric items.

How to Press Your DTF Print

You will need a heat press for best results. DTF prints are beginner‑friendly, but proper pressing makes all the difference!

Recommended Press Settings

  • Temperature: 300–320Β°F
  • Time: 10–15 seconds
  • Pressure: Medium to firm pressure

Every heat press is a little different β€” always test first when you can

Step‑by‑Step Pressing Instructions

  1. Pre‑press your garment for 5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
  2. Place the DTF print ink side down on the garment in your desired position.
  3. Press using the settings above.
  4. Let the transfer cool completely, then peel the film (most of our prints are cold peel unless stated otherwise).
  5. Optional but highly recommended: Cover with parchment paper or a Teflon sheet and re‑press for 5–10 seconds to lock it in and soften the feel.

* If any edges lift after peeling, just cover and repress with a bit more pressure.

Care Instructions

Proper care helps your design last as long as possible.

  • Wait 24 hours before washing
  • Wash inside out
  • Use cold or warm water
  • Mild detergent only
  • Do not bleach
  • Tumble dry low or hang to dry
  • Do not iron directly on the design
  • Avoid dry cleaning

Following these care instructions will help prevent cracking, peeling, or fading.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at thenightcrafters@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We strongly recommend a heat press. Home irons don’t provide even heat or pressure and may cause peeling or poor adhesion.

DTF prints work beautifully on cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blends. They can also be used on many other fabric types β€” always test first.

Most of our prints are cold peel unless clearly stated otherwise in the listing.

A quick second press improves durability, wash life, and gives the design a smoother, softer finish.

Not at all! When pressed correctly, DTF prints have a soft, flexible feel.

DTF works best on its own. Layering with other materials is not recommended.
